GUWAHATI, May 29 � The State Committee of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) (SUCI�C) has demanded updating of the 1951 National Register of Citizens (NRC) as per the principle adopted for the purpose in the rest of the country.
In a statement here, the SUCI-C has also demanded resolution of the issue of �D� voters prior to preparation of the updated version of the document. Besides, it called for accepting all sorts of valid documents for ascertaining citizenship of the people who apply for inclusion of their names in the NRC.
The authorities should also consider the provision of taking into confidence the evidence provided by the neighbours of the applicants. Moreover, the authorities should supply the legacy data to the people on the basis of the 1951 NRC and the pre-1971 voters� lists.
The party has also hailed the people of Goalpara and Dhubri for their spontaneous support on Friday to the bandh call of the Nagarik Surakhya Parishad on the demand for inclusion of the names of all Indian citizens in the NRC.
