Sub-standard food posing threat to life

By Correspondent

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 12 - The conscious people of Biswanath and Gohpur subdivisions have expressed grave concern over the alleged ongoing rampant selling of sub-standard foodstuff and drinking water in a section of restaurants and dhabas in both the subdivisions. They have also expressed concern at the selling of meat and fish at a very unhygienic condition in the markets .

The people alleged that the owners of such business hubs have grasped the opportunity arising out of the indifferent attitude of the concerned government departments. The condition of these restaurants and dhabas at several places is very unhealthy and these are running without maintaining proper cleanliness. It is even alleged that the food stuff and sweets sold here often become unsuitable for human consumption. On the other hand, the flesh of goats, fish and broiler chickens are sold in the open and dirty places, causing the fear of outbreak of serious diseases in those areas. The traders are hardly seen to follow the norms and rules laid down by government agencies.

On the other hand, the traders here charge five rupees more for different brands of cold drinks than the printed Maximum Retail Price (MRP) in the name of keeping it in the refrigerators. The people have urged the administration to take necessary action in this regard.
