By Correspondent

IMPHAL, June 3 - Manipur University (MU) authority has appealed to the students to maintain peaceful and conducive academic atmosphere of the University as closure of the administrative block is affecting the affiliated colleges of the State.

The appeal was made following a meeting of senior Faculty members along with Deans of various academic schools of MU with Vice Chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey on Sunday. According to Public Relations Officer of MU Dr Ganesh Sethi, the meeting was held to discuss the demands of the Students Union of Manipur University.

The meeting also resolved to make an appeal to the students representatives to unlock the university administrative block so as to resume normal functioning of the university and to facilitate the process of smooth discussions on various demands of MUSU.

On Saturday, Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) continued their protest against the alleged failure of VC to take up any welfare initiatives for students and the university. Demanding replacement of the VC, they even blocked the main gate of the varsity.

MUSU leaders alleged that VC Prof Pandeys frequent trips outside the State has hampered the academic atmosphere in the University. However, the striking students informed that the ongoing protest will not disturb the semester examinations.
