NAGAON, Dec 7 - Thousands of college students from various higher educational institutions of the town today staged a strong protest against the bid of government to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, in front of Nowgong College here.
The students from various institutions participated in the stir under the banner of 'Sachetan Chatra Samaj�. The protesters blocked half of the old NH-37 in front of Nowgong College for many hours and the area reverberated with various anti-CAB slogans.
During the stir, the agitators strongly criticised the governments both at the Centre as well as in the State for its bid to pass the bill on the floor of the Parliament.
Slamming the initiatives of the government, the protesters however warned that if the bill is passed, it would ruin the basic identity of the indigenous people of the State irrespective of caste, creed and religion and would also destroy social harmony and integrity.
