Students fail to receive Ishan Uday scholarship

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

DIBRUGARH, Jan 31 - A section of selected students pursuing degree studies here have alleged being deprived of the Ishan Uday scholarship despite rectifying errors in submitting the mandatory information. The Ishan Uday scholarship is given away by the Ministry of HRD and the University Grants Commission annually to promote higher education and for encouraging children belonging to economically weaker section of the north-eastern region.

A good number of selected applicants particularly from some of the reputed colleges here failed to receive the Ishan Uday scholarship for the session 2017-18 reportedly due to issues in the submission of bank details. The status of the bank verification in National Scholarship Portal for these students was shown invalid. The deprived students had contacted the concerned authorities through the Helpline Number of National Scholarship Portal and accordingly sent the correct bank details. The students even communicated the matter to the HRD Ministry and further contacted the Joint Secretary and Assistant Secretary of UGC. As directed by the UGC authority, the applicants submitted their corrected form in respect of bank details, yet no rectification has been done so far by the authorities resulting in the non-receipt of the scholarships by some of the selected candidates.

The students who failed to receive the scholarship said that the indifferent attitude towards the students of Assam is a matter of grave concern. They have urged the authorities to rectify their bank account number and to take immediate steps for the disbursement of scholarship for 2017-18 and to pave way for the renewal of the same.
