Students detained for waving black flags at PM�s convoy

JALUKBARI, Feb 9 - Five students of Gauhati University have been detained by the Jalukbari Police Outpost while they were waving black flags at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s convoy, protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The incident took place when the Prime Minister was heading towards Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport this morning.

Police have detained these five students, including the vice president of the varsity�s Post Graduate Students� Union, when they were seen waving black flags at Modi�s convoy at 7th Mile near the university.

The detainees have been identified as Jitumoni Kalita, vice-president of PGSU, Dilip Roy, A Gogoi, Bhaskar Jyoti Talukdar and Deepjyoti Bhuyan.

A case has been registered with the Jalukbari Police Outpost against the students who were later released by the police. Members of AASU, KMSS, AJYCP and other organisations also waved black flags at the Prime Minister on his way to the Raj Bhawan from LGBI Airport last evening.

Modi reached Guwahati last evening to take part in a series of programmes in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura today.
