By Correspondent

HAFLONG, May 3 - The Harangajao block unit of the Hmar Students Association (HSA) has expressed shock over recent events in the area, in which the body of Santosh Hojai, who was abducted from his residence by unknown persons, was recovered from a reserve forest area. The students body demanded justice in the case without any delay.

A press release issued by the students body stated that on April 24, Santosh Hojai of Harangajao was abducted from his residence by miscreants and his body was recovered at Lailing Reserve Forest under Langting Police Station, in what seemed to be a clear case of murder. The HSA condemned the failure of the Dima Hasao district administration and the law enforcement agencies in protecting the people.

The HSA urged the Government of Assam and the Dima Hasao administration to investigate the matter without delay and bring to book those involved in the abduction and murder of Hojai and also ascertain the cause of death of Ramakanta Dey (head teacher of Michikhur Part-ii LP School, Ditokcherra), whose body was found near Ditokchera Railway Station on May 1. It also expressed its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.

Thousands bid tearful adieu: Thousands of people from every walk of life gathered to bid a tearful adieu to late Santosh Hojai who was kidnapped and killed by unknown gunmen under mysterious circumstances during the nationwide lockdown at Harangajao on Saturday.

A silent procession along with the body of Hojai was held to honour the departed soul up to the cremation ground near Choto Narainpur.

Meanwhile, the Dimasa Students Union and the All Dimasa Students Union and other community organisations, while condemning the incident, demanded a high-level and fast-track inquiry into the incident.
