Students approach police over traffic jams

GUWAHATI, May 24 - Seven students of Maharishi Vidya Mandir located at Vidya Mandir Path in Borsojai locality of the city, have written to the Commissioner of Police with a request to take action to mitigate the traffic congestion on the approach road to their school.

The signatories of the letter sent through email are Debolakshi Sarma, Ciranjan Bora, Harshita Kashyap, Ankuran Bora, Mohixit Goswami, Harshita Bora and Harshit Baruah.

In the letter they alleged that due to presence of a number of business entities on the approach road to their school, traffic congestion always causes hardship to every student in reaching school on time.

They have requested the Police Commissioner to deploy adequate number of traffic police personnel from 7 am to 8.30 am and from 1 pm to 3 pm every day. They have also sought barring entry of heavy commercial vehicles on the road during the specified time periods on every working day of the school.

Meanwhile, acknowledging the complaint of the students, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Prasanta Saikia said remedial measures would be taken.
