Student body seeks 100 pc reservation for locals

GUWAHATI, May 10 � The All Kamrup District Students� Union (AKDSU) today lodged a strong protest demanding 100 per cent reservation for the indigenous people of the North East in the Grade �C� and �D� posts in the railways.

Alleging that the railway authorities and the government have deprived the youths of the region of their legitimate right by not providing the reservation till date, the students� body staged a dharna at the offices of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) today.

The protesters demanded 100 per cent reservation to the local youths and shouted slogans against the Minister of Railways Mamata Banerjee and the Union Government, mentioned a press statement issued by the president of the students� body Dharmeswar Das and general secretary PC Das. Memorandums were also submitted to the chairmen of both the RRB and the RRC in this regard.

�This step has been taken to safeguard the interests of the local people, especially the lakhs of unemployed local youths. Till our demands are fulfilled, the All Assam Students� Union (AASU), Assam Unnati Sabha and the Assam Sena would continue their movement to eliminate the discrimination against the indigenous people of the North East,� the statement added.
