SILCHAR, Aug 14 - The All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) on Thursday paid rich tributes to the former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away on July 27 following a massive cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture on Livable Earth at IIM Shillong.

In a meeting held at the conference hall of the Cachar Zila Parishad, members of the student body along with other invited guests paid floral tributes to the Missile Man of India.

In his speech, Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former vice chancellor of Assam University Silchar recollected his interactions with the former President. I had the fortune to meet the man on two occasions and on both, he was eager to know the status of education and learning, Prof Bhattacharjee said. He was quick to say that Dr Kalam was a man way beyond religious and party lines and had represented India at the global stage through his illustrious works. He took teams of scientists wherever he represented India and was no less than a saint, Prof Bhattacharjee maintained.

Educationist Samar Kanti Roy Choudhury said that Dr Kalam was rightly called the Peoples President and he will be forever alive in the hearts of the students for whom he is an inspiration. Earlier, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, chief advisor to the student body, reflected on the life and works of the late former President.

Other guests, including academician Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, ACKHSA advisor Niranjan Dutta, and Sanjiv Roy also spoke about Dr Kalam and threw light upon his works that have inspired the youths of the country.
