Strong action against liquor shops near NHs at Karimganj

PATACHARKUCHI, March 14 - �Muktidham,� a newly-constructed cremation ground on the bank of river Kaldia of Siva Durga dham, Patacharkuchi with facilities of waiting shed, water and sanitation facility and constructed under the aegis of Rajlaxmi Society, Patacharkuchi was declared open on Sunday by Pabindra Deka, MLA, Patacharkuchi LAC.

The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Hiren Sarma, president of Muktidham project. In his speech, he appealed to the public to donate with open hands for the construction of the same and expressed his gratitude for the donations already made by the public and organisations of the locality. He also praised the efforts of the society. The MLA also announced Rs one lakh from his fund for development of the project. The programme was anchored by Khanindra Nath Sarma and the purpose was explained by Mantu Sarma, secretary of the project. Dr Kailash Sarma read out a report regarding the project and submitted memorandums to the MLA and Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta.

Deputy Commissioner, Thaneswar Malakar attending the meeting as the chief guest lauded the efforts of the Rajlaxmi Society for constructing the cremation ground and appealed to the public to donate for the noble cause. He further assured of extending all possible help for completion of the project.

Among other literary pensioners and prominent social workers, Munindra Narayan Goswami and social worker Rajjkumar Jalan delivered speeches on the occasion. The meeting was attended by Nilima Goswami, chairman and Mohirul Islam, vice chairman of Patacharkuchi Town Committee, Rafikul Haque, president of Prapgjyoti Club, Rabin Sarma, president of Patacharkuchi Development Committee, among others.
