GUWAHATI, June 23 � Ten tea tribe and Adivasi community organisations of the State today chalked out an agitational programme to press for inclusion of the names of the people of their communities, who are living in the State �directly� in the National Register of Citizens (NRC). They demanded that there should not be any official demand for submission of documents by the people of these communities for the purpose of including their names in the NRC, the updating process of which is on now.
At a meeting convened by the All Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (AATTSA) in the city, the ten tea tribes and Adivasi organisations� AATTSA, Asam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Chah Janagosthi Sahitya Sabha, Adivasi National Conference, Adivasi National Sangha, Adivasi Surakshya Samiti, Barak Valley Tea Tribes� Welfare Society, Chah Janagosthi Adivasi Aikya Mancha, Chah Janagosthi Adivasi Jagaran Santha, among others, decided today to go for an agitational programme beginning from June 27, with a take to the streets programme, said AATTSA president Prahlad Gowala.
The members and supporters of the above organisations will stage demonstrations for 2 hours that day in support of their demand for inclusion of the names of the persons belonging to the tea tribe communities without asking for any document, Gowala said.
On July 1, the members and supporters of these organisations will stage mass sit-in demonstration on the bank of the Dighali Pukhuri here, he informed. On July 6, they will stage sit-in demonstration at New Delhi on the same demand, said Gowala.
