Stress on choice-based credit system

GUWAHATI, Feb 26 � The Assam Science and Technology University, Guwahati conducted a workshop at its permanent campus at Jalukbari on February 24. The workshop was recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and supported by the State Government, a press release stated.

The Vice Chancellor of the university Dr PK Goswami explained the need for the choice based credit system (CBCS) in the present curriculum where performance of a student is measured by awarding grades and adopting central evaluation system for different undergraduate and post-graduate courses of the university.

The workshop was addressed by Dr DN Buragohain, former director of IIT, Guwahati and Prof A Saharsabudhe from the College of Engineering Pune. Principals and faculty members of different affiliated colleges and other colleges also supported the implementation of CBCS for different courses of the university from the next academic session (2015-16) as per the direction of the UGC.

The participants were from other universities of the region like Assam Don Bosco University, Assam Down Town University and colleges like Assam Engineering College, Royal School of Engineering and Technology, GIMT Azara, GIMT Tezpur, NITS Mirza, IIT Guwahati, Guwahati College of Archicture, Scholar�s Institute of Technology and Management etc.

The participants stressed the adoption of CBCS for facilitating migration of students of different academic institutions, exchange of knowledge, quality improvement of the teaching-learning process etc. The CBCS system will ensure seamless mobility of students across the higher education institutions of the country as well as abroad, the participants felt.
