Stranded elephant calf rescued

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, Nov 14 - Employees of the Forest Department rescued a one-and-a-half- month-old elephant calf from Mesaijan TE, an outgarden of Samdang TE on Saturday.

A herd of elephants came out of the Takowani Reserve Forest under Doomdooma Forest Division and entered Mesaijan TE in search of fodder.

Incidentally, when the herd of elephants was retreating towards the forest, the calf accidentally fell into a drain. Unfortunately, the herd left the calf behind, which was attended to by a veterinary doctor and forest staff. The calf would soon be sent to the Animal Rescue Centre at Kaziranga, a Forest Department official informed.
