DIGBOI, March 23 - After the expiry of the withdrawal time at 3 pm on Monday in 126-Digboi LAC, with one candidate opting out of the fray, a total of eight candidates are left in the fray for the upcoming State Assembly elections. Arun Sahu, originally an aspirant of INC�s ticket withdrew his candidature on Monday. The final contestants from Digboi LAC are Suren Phukan of the BJP, Gautam Dhanowar of INC, Md Imran Siddique of Rashtriya Bikash Manch, Nagen Dhekial Phukan of NCP and four Independents-Bhaba Kanta Chutia, Chandan Baagh, Pranab Chetia and Biswanath Sarma Bordoloi. In the tussle Pranab Chetia, who was an aspirant of the INC nomination may be a retarding factor for the INC candidate Gautam Dhanowar. However, the tussle will be more or less restricted to BJP�s Suren Phukan and INC�s Gautam Dhanowar.
In 124-Margherita LAC, with no one withdrawing from the race, a total of six candidates are left in the fray. They are Pradyut Bordoloi of INC, Bhaskar Sharma of BJP, Umesh Borah, Purna Chetry, Biswanath Singh and Nidan Purty� the last four being Independents. In Margherita LAC, the contest will be mainly between INC�s Pradyut Bordoloi and BJP�s Bhaskar Sharma.
