Storm lashes Manipur, 2 women hurt

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, March 28 A summer storm ripped through the entire State of Manipur in the wee hours of Sunday, creating a public apprehension about the revisit of cyclonic thunderstorm which once destroyed many habitations in 2008.

The storm believed to have erupted in full strength swept down from slopes of north eastern hill ranges at a speed of 15 to 20 miles per hour and went west around 2.30 am of Sunday, according to Meteorological Office here.

The dusty wind seemed to have struck first at Ukhrul district headquarters, 80 km north of Imphal as the residents of the hill station reported damages to some houses besides felling of some electric posts and telecom posts yesterday afternoon.

Two women were injured when a sudden landslide hit two adjoining houses at Khoupum village in Imphal West district when the family members were in bed.

There are also reports of damage to vegetables, food grains and trees in various parts of the State.
