DIPHU, May 16 - Prompt action was taken by the State Government to support the families whose members were killed in the recent thunderstorm at Howraghat in Karbi Anglong.
It may be mentioned here that Sum Ronghang, HAD Minister handed over Rs 4 lakh in cheque each to two victim families here recently at a programme held at the Bakaliaghat auditorium hall. It needs to be mentioned here that two people including a woman died during the devastating storm on May 9 last at Howraghat town. Those killed were identified as Mohan Bora and Prabhabati Harijan.
Besides, a number of below poverty line students and ailing people were also provided Rs 5,000 by Ronghang and the dignitaries present which included the EMs of KAAC Khonsing Rongpi, Ratan Teron, Ramsing Timung, local MAC.
Ronghang also laid the foundation stone of an open stage at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh and another foundation stone of an employees association office near the Irrigation Divisional office.
Subsequently, he took part in the welcome and felicitation meetings.
