Stir against recruitment of Grade IV staff

SILCHAR, Nov 2 - The All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students� Association (ACKHSA) on Friday staged a day-long protest demanding scraping of the recruitment of candidates from outside Barak Valley in the Department of Veterinary depriving the eligible local youths.

ACKHSA cadres gheraoed the office of the Joint Director of the Department Veterinary demanding that the Grade IV posts in the department must be filled by inducting youths of Barak Valley.

Making their intention clear, the protesters told Joint Director Himdri Sen, �We are protesting against the State Government�s intent to deprive the local youths in its offices, particularly in the Department of Veterinary. If the local applicants are not given preference, we will continue our movement against this injustice and those coming to join here will have to go back.�

Rupam Nandi Purakystha, chief advisor to the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students� Association, pressed for immediate action and urged the Joint Director to intimate the higher authorities in the department to cancel the recruitment of 11 Grade IV candidates in Cachar district. His demand was echoed by Sadhan Purakystha, secretary of Amra Bangalee, Assam State committee. He said that it was in accordance with the employment rules that in the Grade III and Grade IV posts, locals must get preference, but the government has violated.

Joint Director Himdri Sen assured the protesters that he would speak to higher authorities on the issue.
