By CORRESPONDENT

JALUKBARI, March 31 - In order to further strengthen the democratic process, the Kamrup Election District has taken a special initiative to motivate voters with various disabilities to exercise their franchise during the ensuing Assembly elections in the State.

The Kamrup Election District has created a special cell Kamrup Disability Assistance Centre (K-DAC) which has been specially designed to motivate such voters. The cell has a toll-free number 1800-345-3975, using which any person can avail information about how the facilities will be provided at various polling stations during the election. A Facebook page has also been developed in this connection.

As part of the process to implement this plan, posters, booklets, postcards are also being sent to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to convey the message to these voters. Along with these steps, pasting of wall-based signage, hanging of banners at prime locations and application of Braille for blind voters at the polling stations are also being done in full swing. Audiovisual advertisements for visually impaired voters are also being displayed.

Accordingly, all the BLOs have been instructed to assist these voters so that the latter do not have to confront any difficult situation while exercising their franchise on the day of polling.

Lady polling personnel: Meanwhile, to make the election process more participatory by involving women in poll-related activity, the Kamrup Election District has adopted a new step to depute lady polling personnel in some selected polling stations in the ensuing Assembly election.

Accordingly, eight polling stations will be run only by lady officials, who will act as presiding officers and other polling officers. The woman officials concerned were given requisite training regarding their duties and responsibilities in the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Amingaon, to ensure an error-free electioneering process.

Participating in the training, General Observer and DC & DEO Kamrup Vinod Seshan appreciated the lady officials for coming forward to participate as responsible polling officials in the electioneering process.

The polling stations to be run entirely by women will be set up at 223 Boko MV School (Right Wing), 224 Boko MV School (Left Wing), 181 Chaygaon Majalia LP School (R/W), 182 Chaygaon Majalia LP School (L/W),66 Bijaynagar Marwari Girls Minor School (R/W), 144 Mirza Girls High School (R/W), 131 Chechamukh LP School (R/W) and 132 Chechamukh LP School (L/W).

My Vote campaign in full swing: The My Vote campaign is going on in full swing in Kamrup Election District to create awareness among the people about ethical voting and to encourage the citizens to come out for using their right of franchise on the day of polling.

As part of the campaign, activities like road shows by voters awareness vans and polling station on wheels, awareness meetings at market and public places, gaon sabha meetings, house-to-house and roadside EVM awareness camps, street plays at public places, bike and cycle rallies, selfi drives at the colleges etc., are being carried out in every nook and corner of the election district.

Besides, in order to create a congenial atmosphere for a free, fair, peaceful and transparent election process and to increase voter turnout, the administration is also distributing leaflets on appeals of the DEO and organising EVM awareness camps, using print and electronic media, pasting stickers on voting awareness on all vehicles, playing the appeals of icons of election and DEO through PA and FLS system, carrying out house-to-house campaign in low PS areas and imparting training to officials and arranging special assistance to specially abled and elderly persons at polling stations.
