Statue of Sudhakantha to be set up at Sadiya

TINSUKIA, Oct 19 - At last Sadiya, the birth place of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika, will get his statue.

Speaking to mediapersons at Dhola, the Union Minister of State (Independent charge), for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal stated that he will contribute a sum of Rs 10 lakh for the project. Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was the pride of Assam and Sadiya was his birth place and his statue must be erected at Sadiya, the Union Minister added.

Regarding the development of Sadiya, which is also a segment of his Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency, the Union Minister stated that the Central Government had already released a sum of Rs 50 crore for reconstruction of two roads� one connecting Dibang Ghat and Sunpura and the other road connecting Burhaburi to Amarpur. He also informed that from his area development fund, an amount of Rs 10 lakh for construction of a guest house at Amarpur and an amount of Rs 10 lakh for construction of a bhawan for the gaonburhas at Chapakhowa have been sanctioned. He stated that the NDA Government was giving importance for the overall development of the north-eastern region.
