NALBARI, June 17 � Minster of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Gautam Roy has said that the State Government has taken special steps to make drinking water sources free from arsenic contamination by 2013-14.
Talking to this Correspondent, the Minister added that as arsenic contamination in drinking water sources is posing a serious problem in upper Assam districts, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has taken it seriously. Roy also said that a systematic study on arsenic contamination in lower Assam districts will be taken up. He further stated that the State Government has decided to set up mega drinking water supply schemes in each district. He assured that two mega projects will also be set up in Nalbari district.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the newly constructed water supply schemes at Rangafali, Sahpur, Degheli, Terechia and Barkhala. The Sahpur and Barkhala projects were completed at a cost of Rs 37.65 lakh and Rs 47.71 lakh respectively. On the other hand, the Digheli project was constructed at a cost of Rs 45.54 lakh and the Terechia project at the cost of Rs 34.80 lakh.
