State rural mission awarded

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 - The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has conferred the national award to the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM) for its outstanding performance under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY-NRLM) in the category of 'Institutional Building and Capacity Building'.

At an award ceremony held at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today, Union Minister for Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar, in the presence of Department of Rural Development Secretary Amarjeet Sinha and Joint Secretary (RL) and DAY-NRLM CEO Atal Dulloo presented the award to Nandita Hazarika, State Mission Director, ASRLM, Dr Rousy K Baruah, State Project Manager, ASRLM and Khagen Dutta, Project Manager, ASRLM.

Till date, under the ASRLM, more than 2 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed. Many village organisations (VOs) and cluster level federations (CLFs) have also been formed under the ASRLM so far.

All these community-based organisations have been provided with sufficient training and capacity-building programmes by the ASRLM, nurturing them to be self-sustaining institutions.
