State records highest number of JE deaths

NEW DELHI, Sept 23 - Assam has earned the dubious distinction of recording the highest number of deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

In 2014, Assam witnessed 761 cases of JE of which 165 patients died, which is the highest in the country.

According to the National Health Profile 2015, released by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, the JE is showing an upward trend in Assam over the years. In 2013, 495 cases were reported of which 134 died. In 2010, 142 cases were reported, of which 40 persons died. In 2011, 589 cases of JE were reported out of which 113 patients died.
