State police alert against human trafficking

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - With large-scale displacement taking place in the State due to floods, the Assam Police has sounded an alert against trafficking attempts to lure young boys and girls from the affected areas.

Police said that the anti-trafficking units of Assam Police have already instructed all the police stations concerned to be alert as it is under such a situation that human trafficking rackets try to take advantage.

More importantly, vigil in and around the railway stations across the State, besides bus terminuses and other possible transit points has been enhanced in all the districts, including the Guwahati police stations, sources told this reporter.

Non-governmental organisations working in the field have also intensified patrolling in their respective areas of operation.

Sources informed that the local police stations have also been directed to investigate the fresh missing cases, especially from the trafficking angle in all the vulnerable areas.
