State mourns demise of �Sugandhi Pokhilar kabi�

GUWAHATI, July 4 � Governor JB Patnaik has condoled the death of poet Hiren Bhattacharjya. In a message, the Governor said that Bhattacharjya had left an indelible imprint in the annals of Assamese literature as a poet par excellence, and that his legacy would live forever and inspire generations to come.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also extended his condolences to the bereaved family members of the poet. In his condolence message, Gogoi termed him as a shining star in the literary and social spheres of the State who had created a new era in the world of Assamese verse in his inimitable style. �It is an irreparable loss for the State,� he said.

Meanwhile, condolences have kept pouring in from various quarters, mourning the death of the poet.

Besides Gauhati Artists� Guild, of which poet Hiren Bhattacharya was a lifetime member, a number of organizations including the Asam Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Students� Union, Axom Xahitya Xonmilan, Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad, AGP, BJP, AIUDF, CPI, CPI (M), Bharatiya Gana-Natya Sangha, AJYCP, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Seuji-Seuji, Asom Mahila Sangha, All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, All India Students� Federation, All Assam Unnayan Parishad, All India Kisan Sabha, Junior Doctors Association (GMCH), Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Assam Chamber of Commerce, Save Guwahati Build Guwahati, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Assam Pradesh, All India Students� Association, Sadou Asom Janasanskritik Parishad, Publication Board, have condoled the poet�s death.
