State mountaineering body to organise training

GUWAHATI, Nov 16 - Like the preceding 46 years Assam Mountaineering Association (AMA), the pioneer organisation in the field of promoting Mountaineering and Adventure sports in NE Region is once again all set to organize a training programm to impart firsthand knowledge on mountaineering to the youths and children of the state. Boys and girls in the age group of above 12 years are eligible to participate in the training. Commencing from November 29, Sunday, the training will be conducted on all the next five consecutive Sundays in the various rock fields of in and around Guwahati. Some of the integral parts of mountaineering expeditions are rock climbing, rappelling, belaying, chimney climbing, crossing a turbulent stream and so on. The trainees will have the cheer joy of learning these techniques under the guidance of some of the experienced mountaineers of AMA. Lectures on other important aspects like snow craft, mountain sickness etc will be delivered with visual aid. On December 27, is the concluding day of the programmed, the trainees will be taken for a long trek and will also be provided with the knowhow of crossing a mountain stream. A test will also be conducted for assessing their performance.

An Adventure Orientation Camp of similar nature will be conducted for the children who are between 4 years to 12 years on December 25, December 26 and 27 in order to breed next generation of mountaineers. Assam Mountaineering Association will select suitable trainees from these two programmed and will take them to higher Himalayan range in their next phase of programmed.

All the interested boys and girls and also the parents who wish to enroll their wards in the programmed are requested to collect the forms from the Office of AMA, Near Kanaklata Indoor Stadium, RG Baruah Sports Complex Ulubari Guwahati which will remain open from 5pm to 7pm on all working days.
