By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, June 20 - The alleged involvement of a senior minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal Cabinet in shady deals has startled the national BJP leadership with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reportedly handing over further investigation of the case to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

According to highly placed sources, the news item carried by a television news channel has led the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) to ask the ED to probe the authenticity of the documents recovered and file a preliminary report within three days.

The news channel showed some file notes and other documents of the Assam government, besides tender details and quotations seized by the income tax department on May 27, when it raided the Defence Colony residence of a businessman named Anuj Poddar.

The news channel reported that the search operation led to recovery of a treasure trove of documents, including sensitive files belonging to Defence and External Affairs Ministries. The channel, which named the investigation as Operation Broker, claimed that besides the name of a senior minister of Assam, involvement of several chief ministers, senior bureaucrats and police officers has emerged in the deals.
