State-level contest on Kamrupi Lokageet concludes at Rangiya

RANGIYA, Jan 20 - Under the aegis of non-profit organisation Sandhan Care Society of the locality, a state-level competition on Kamrupi Lokageet was held with a day-long programme at Rangiya Raijmel Swahid Krishak Bhavan here on January 19.

The event, held for the second consecutive year in memory of AIR and DD Lokageet artiste Hemchandra Bujarbaruah of the locality, started with paying of floral tributes before the portrait of the late artiste.

The programme was inaugurated by retired teacher of KB Deulkuchi HSS Anima Thakuria. More than 30 participants took part in the event which was held in three categories - Group-A: (from Class-IV to Class-X), Group-B: (from Class-XI and above, and Group-C: (for ideal mothers from age 30 and above).

Later, an open session cum prize distribution ceremony for the winners was held which was presided over by social worker and retired Headmistress of PB Daulpukhuripar Girls� High School, Kiran Patowary and attended by noted Lokageet artiste Basanta Patgiri, Dr Prafulla Basumatary, Dipak Talukdar and Dipak Roy, besides other invited guests.

Artiste Patgiri and others stressed on preserving Lokageet, while lauding the organisers for holding the event, which they claimed was an appropriate platform for the purpose. Earlier, artistes, including Dulu Bhuyan, Bhabananda Das Pathak and Dipak Roy were felicitated. The winners were awarded with prize money and certificates.
