State has 18.22 lakh unemployed persons

GUWAHATI, March 6 � The State now has 18,22,924 unemployed persons as per the live registers of the employment exchanges and of them, 2,44,942 are graduates, said Labour and Employment Minister Prithibi Majhi.

In reply to questions by Dilip Moran and Prasanta Phukan of the BJP in the state Assembly, the Minister said that steps have been taken for campus recruitments. The Government is also organizing job melas where the non-Government organizations can recruit persons.

Majhi said that the National Council for Vocational Training is also being roped into to open placement cell in the Guwahati ITI. In the last ten years, 5911 persons have been given appointments through the employment exchanges. He also said that new short and long term courses have also been introduced in the ITIs for human resource development.

Textbooks: Congress legislator Anjan Dutta today

expressed serious concern over the mistakes in the textbooks brought out by the Sarba Shiksha Abhijan Mission, and said that such mistakes would create confusion in the minds of the schoolchildren.

Dutta, while raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the State Assembly, said that the Government should take serious note of the mistakes and the same should be rectified immediately.

In reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilamani Sen Deka said that the textbooks would be revised soon and necessary corrections, if necessary, would be made in the next editions of the books.
