GUWAHATI, June 28 Assam Government today announced that it, like several other States of the country, would soon withdraw cess on petroleum products in view of the last weeks nationwide hike in prices of diesel, kerosene and LPG cylinder.
Addressing mediapersons here today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, The State will soon withdraw cess but before that we will have to make an assessment. The Union Ministry has also requested the State Government to ease the consumer burden and we will soon provide some relief.
Gogoi, however, conceded that withdrawal of cess will affect revenue collection and may impact developmental projects.
It needs mention that diesel prices have been increased by Rs 3 per litre, LPG cylinders by Rs 50 per cylinder and kerosene by Rs 2 per litre since last week.
