GUWAHATI, June 3 - The Assam Cabinet today decided to adopt a strong stand on encroachments and to amend the Assam Land Revenue Regulation, 1886.
Talking to The Assam Tribune after the Cabinet meeting, Industries and Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that encroachments have become a major problem and in recent times, the State Government had to launch a series of eviction drives. To deal with the problem, the decision was taken to amend the Land Revenue Regulation.
The Cabinet, which was chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, decided to regulate the private placement agencies and a Bill in this regard would be moved in the next session of the State Assembly. Patowary pointed out that at present, a number of private placement agencies are taking youths from the State to other parts of the country in name of placements, but afterwards no one knows the fate of the youths. If the Bill is passed, such agencies would be forced to divulge all the details to the government.
The Cabinet decided the State Government employees will now get time bound promotions.
The Cabinet decided to reduce the minimum age for appointment of gaonburahs from 35 to 25, but the two child rule will be made applicable in case of appointment of gaonburahs.
The Cabinet decided on principle to pay ex gratia amount of Rs 20 lakh each to the next of kin of Army and other Central force personnel from the State, who lose their lives while on duty in other parts of the country.
The authorized capital of the APDCL will be increased from Rs 250 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, while, the remuneration of the chief executive member and executive members of six autonomous councils would be hiked. The remuneration of the CEM of the Tiwa, Rabha, Thengal, Sonowal and Deuri autonomous councils would be increased to Rs 45,000 per month while, for the executive members would be increased to Rs 25,000.
