State Govt, NITI Aayog hold brainstorming session

SHILLONG, Aug 1 - NITI Aayog and Meghalaya Government concluded a two-day brainstorming session here today to prepare the blue print for a �New Meghalaya, 2022.�

Niti Aayog Vice Chairman, Rajiv Kumar said after the meeting that NITI Aayog and the different departments of Meghalaya would coordinate to build a new Meghalaya by 2022.

The year 2022 was taken as a benchmark because this is the year Meghalaya would be hosting the National Games and lots of new infrastructure would be created.

�Meghalaya Government and NITI Aayog will work as partners for developing the blue print for building a new Meghalaya by 2022 and wherever the State Government finds difficulties they can contact us and we would assist them,� Kumar said.

He said during these two days the meeting focused on various issues, especially those causing roadblocks in the development of the State like in education, transportation and power sectors.

�We spoke about several constraints and bottlenecks the State is facing, for example lack of trained teachers, electricity connections, lack of proper mobile connectivity in border areas,� he said.

He assured these issues would be taken up with appropriate Union Ministries in the coming days. He further informed that NITI Aayog has recommended and would encourage private investment in tourism sector of the State.
