State Govt moves SC seeking time

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, June 20 - The Assam Government on Wednesday formally moved the Supreme Court seeking more time to publish the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

According to sources, State NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela today filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court Registry in a sealed cover. The matter is likely to come up for hearing before a Vacation Court.

Sources said that while they have not specified the time, it has informed the Court that the NRC updating work has suffered because of the floods in Assam.

The final draft of the NRC is scheduled to be published on June 30 and the NRC matter is listed for hearing before the Justice Ranjan Gogoi Bench on July 2.
