State geologist selected for national award

GUWAHATI, Feb 16 � Geologist of the State Directorate of Geology and Mining Arpan Dutta has been selected for the National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology Communication through Print Media including books and magazines for the year 2011 by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

B P Singh, Scientist 'G' and Head (NCSTC) informed Dutta through a letter (DD No CO/IN/A01/2011).

The award consists of Rs 1,00,000, a memento and a citation. It would be presented during an award distribution function on February 28 in the Raman Auditorium of Technology Bhavan, New Mehrauli Marg, New Delhi as part of the National Science Day Celebration, Singh said in his letter.

Dutta is a prolific popular science writer. He has been writing for the past about three decades. He writes both in Assamese and English on issues concerning science and technology for the common people. He has around 4,000 articles on different science and technology-related issues.

Dutta has written a number of articles and about 10 features for the AIR too. He had edited the Assam Science Society's Assamese journal Bijnan Jyoti between 2007 and 2009. He has 17 books in Assamese on topics of science and technology.
