State floods

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - The Governor of Assam and Nagaland, PB Acharya met President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi recently and discussed about the devastating floods in the State.

A Raj Bhawan press release said that the Governor apprised the President that the Centre is yet to fully release its share of the State Disaster Response Fund.

Meanwhile, the President has expressed his concern over the recent flood situation in Assam.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, the President said, �I am sad to learn about the heavy rains leading to floods in Assam, which has resulted in loss of lives, injuries, damage to property, destruction of crops and thousands being rendered homeless. I am glad to know rescue and relief operations are currently underway. I call upon the State Government and other authorities to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families, who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured and shelter to homeless.�
