GUWAHATI, April 29 BJP national general secretary Bijoy Goel on Sunday hinted at a change in leadership in BJP, Assam Pradesh that failed miserably in the last Assembly elections despite a lot of build-up.

Addressing mediapersons here after inaugurating the new permanent office of the State BJP named after former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Goel said that the party was committed to working for the development of the people of Assam and young leaders of the party would now be entrusted with more responsibility to meet the aspirations of the public and usher in the expected changes in the State.

The organisational elections of the State BJP will be held in a couple of months. And this time we are going to give preference to young and dedicated members of the party. The party will march ahead under the leadership of dynamic young people, said Goel.

It needs to be mentioned here that a meeting of the office-bearers of the State BJP was held today that dwelt on strengthening the base of the party among other issues. Membership drive is one important agenda in the party to strengthen its base.

Goel will tomorrow attend such a membership drive in Golaghat where 1000 people under the leadership of Amiya Bora will formally join the BJP.

Demanding of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to call an all-party meeting at the earliest to discuss the issues of the State including development matters, Goel said that in comparison to States like Gujarat and Bihar, Assam was lagging far behind on the development front. Goel also met Gogoi today.

The BJP is ready to extend constructive support to the Tarun Gogoi government in the interest of the people and Assam, announced Goel adding that the Tarun Gogoi government has let the people down even on sensitive issues like NRC update, Assam Accord etc.

Referring to the UPA government, Goel said that the common people of the country were fed up with the Congress that has become synonymous with corruption and inflation.

People want the Congress to go as they have realised that there would be no real development of the country under the Congress. One scam after another has been emerging during the Congress tenure which instead of punishing the culprits has been protecting them, alleged Goel insisting on a judicial committee to probe the role of CBI in connection which Ottavio Quattrocchi.
