State cricketer passes away

GUWAHATI, Feb 19 - Former State cricketer Asif Latif who played in Vijay Merchant Trophy and CK Nayudu Trophy in 1990s for Assam, breathed his last at a local nursing home today.

The 43-year old Asif was son of noted football coach and international player Abdul Latif. A successful businessman of the Ulubari area of Guwahati, was a keen sportsmen who also extended his hands in organising various sports activities. Apart from cricket and football he also was a pioneer in organising snooker in the city.

A mild natured person, Asif was very much popular among the sportspersons. His sudden demise cast a pall of gloom among the sporting fraternity of the city.

He leaves behind wife and a son apart from his parents and two sisters. His last rites will be performed tomorrow at 2 pm.
