GUWAHATI, May 22 The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will demand a probe into the utilization of the Central funds by the Assam government immediately after the BJP-led government assumes office at the Centre. This was disclosed by president of the State unit of BJP, Sarbananda Sonowal.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Sonowal said that the State BJP has already launched its own probe into the misuse of Central funds by the State government and the Central leadership was apprised of it. He said that proper utilization of the Central funds is a must for the development of the State and the BJP would not tolerate misuse of funds by the State government.

Sonowal revealed that the State unit of the party would take up the issues relating to overall development of the State immediately after the new government assumes office. He said that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is well versed with the situation and problems of Assam and he was properly briefed about it during his visits to the State. We are confident that immediately after assuming office, Modi would be able to take effective steps for development of the State, he added.

The State BJP president pointed out that they would request the Central leadership to deal with core issues, like infiltration of foreigners and sealing of the international border to check fresh influx. He said that solutions of the problem of flood and erosion would be the major demands of the State unit of the BJP. The party would also request the new Prime Minister to take effective steps for rapid industrialization of the State.

Sonowal further said that the slow progress of implementation of the national projects, including construction of Bogibeel bridge during the tenure of the UPA government was a major cause of concern.
