State BJP focussing on rural areas

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 4 Buoyed by the visit of the central leaders, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh is concentrating on improving its image in rural Assam right now as it is almost final that the saffron party is going to fight it out alone in the coming Assembly elections.

It needs to be mentioned here that the party has already launched its election campaign and the rebuff from the AGP party who chose to backtrack on its agreement, party sources said has actually motivated its members who are now busy in the activity of booth formation and house-to-house, campaign.

According to a party source, the BJP is giving importance to establishing house-to-house contact in an endeavour to boost its organisational strength as well as garner public opinion in its favour. The prospective candidates of the party too are busy in campaigning at the grassroots. Here it is worth mentioning that the party will by November announce the first list of its candidates in 40 constituencies.

Our members are working hard to usher in the change that the people of the State are looking for, said the source adding that one of the strategies of the party would be to highlight the failure and corruption of the ruling Congress. The other name of the Congress is corruption and people have the right to know why they are being deprived of the benefits of various welfare schemes, the source said pointing out to NREGA that has seen large scale irregularities in its implementation, the anomalies in the PDS that have deprived the needy, and the tardy progress of different road schemes.
