GUWAHATI, June 11 � Calling for immediate update of the NRC in every district of Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh has demanded of the government to ascertain any genuine link between the 1971 voters list and the 1951 NRC.
The party said that in the districts lacking the 1951 NRC, the sadar jomabandi or the relevant documents at the offices of Tahsildar and revenue circle should be verified as per necessity.
The party, while slamming the government for suspending the pilot NRC project two years back bowing to pressure from minority bodies, demanded of the government to take stringent action against those individuals and organisations coming in the way of the NRC update process.
�Even the law is not implemented in true spirit in Assam. The law in the State is not impartial to all. It is very unfortunate that the police force does not have the power to take action against members of the ruling party,� said the party insisting on the government for applying the law equally to all.
