GUWAHATI, Sept 5 � Honouring 27 teachers of the State for meritorious service on the occasion of Teachers� Day today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that education was the biggest means to solve the problems beleaguering the society.

Speaking at the State function to honour the teachers organized at Rabindra Bhawan here, he said that Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and a great teacher and scholar realised the role played by the teachers towards society building. The Chief Minister also said that a good teacher has the power to uplift many lives. �Good teachers can only create good citizens for the country,� he said.

He further said that the State government was taking various steps to upgrade the quality of education in the State and create better infrastructure for providing good academic ambience to the students. He also spoke about various schemes taken up by the State government to help the students of backward areas of the State or those having poor economic background. A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
