SSB to host All India Police Hockey in city

GUWAHATI, March 10 � The Sashastra Seema Ball (SSB) Frontier Headquarters will host the 59th edition of the All India Police Hockey Championship from March 12 to 19.

Most of the matches of the mega event will be played at the Maulana Md Tayyebulla Hockey Stadium, Bhetapara here while the organisers are planning to hold some of the matches at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai.

Giving details to the media about the championship, DIG Nilambor Buragohain said although they have invited all the 42 affiliated units of All India Police Sports Control Board, only 24 have confirmed their participation. Buragohain said despite making repeated requests, Assam Police has decided not to take part in the meet which will be played in league-cum-knock out basis.

He further added that Assam Hockey Association will provide technical support in the championship while Police Sports Control Board will deploy officials to conduct the matches.

SSB official Subhash Kumar intimated that some international players will be seen in action during the 8-day meet. Defending champions BSF and finalist Punjab Police have confirmed their participation.

The participating teams are: Bihar, BSF, Chandigarh, Chattishgarh, CISF, CRPF, Gujarat, Haryana, ITBP, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Orissa, Punjab, RPF, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, SSB.
