SSB Siliguri take home ID Cup

GUWAHATI, Oct 1 � Showing temperament in penalty shoot out Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) of Siliguri today defeated Langsning Club of Shillong by an aggregate of 5-4 goals in the final of the Independence Day Cup Football Tournament.

In the keenly contested summit clash at the Nurul Amin Stadium, Nagaon both the teams netted one goal each in the regulation and extra time.

It was the Shillong outfit which drew first blood in the 12th minute when Johanes Bordoh beat SSB custodian with an angular drive from top of the box (1-0). At the fag end of the first session SSB managed to restore parity through H Govinda Singh. Anticipating a pass from L Ranjan Singh, Govinda took advantage of defensive lapse of the Shillong team and pushed home for the equaliser (1-1). In the second session and extra 30 minutes no team could break the deadlock.

In the tie breaker both the teams struck thrice. For SSB L Ranjan Singh, Kh Bhumeswar Singh and Kh Lukhoi Singh were the successful shooters while for Shillong Bordoh, Samuel and Nundanda were on target. But in the sudden death SSB�s Jit Kumar Singh bulged the net when Khrawkutar Tamu missed.
