GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - The 10th Inter Frontier Hockey Championship, organised by the Sashastra Seema Bal Frontier Guwahati (SSBFG), started today at the Maulana M Tayyebula Hockey Stadium, Bhetapara here. Anil Negi, Inspector General of SSB, Frontier Guwahati, inaugurated the four-day meet. Five teams from Lucknow, Ranikhet, Patna, Siliguri and Guwahati are participating in the meet.

In the opening ceremony, the players were dressed with their frontier colour and logo on their track suits and caps while march pasting the dais where the chief guest took salute.

The chief guest lauded the players and their zeal to actively participate in the championship. He emphasised that the spirit of oneness irrespective of caste and creed as well as the competitive team work will send a message of brotherhood, unity in diversity and honing the skills of talented players.

The Oath ceremony by the players towards fair play and the spirit of sportsmanship encouraged the audience to be a participatory inter face for promoting sports which has a profound effect on the physical fitness and mental health as well as an environment of competitiveness.

A friendly match was played between hosts Guwahati and Siliguri after the opening ceremony. The championship matches will start tomorrow from 6 am onwards.
