GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The First Srimanta Sankaradeva International Festival 2016, organised by Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, will be held from January 2 to 8 next, an official press release issued said.

The event will showcase and promote the contributions and achievements of the 15th century Vaishnavite saint in the international arena through a series of programmes that have been lined up throughout the eight-day period.

In this regard, a general body meeting of the festival organizing committee was held today in the Kalakshetra premises, where some important decisions were taken following overwhelming interests shown by the public.

The organisers have decided to extend the bhaona, Parizat Horon, which was to be staged in French language on January 3 and 4, for another day. The same bhaona will also be showcased in the traditional Brajawali language on January 5 and in English on January 6.

An international seminar will also be held on the theme �The Bhakti Movement in India with special reference to Srimanta Sankaradeva�, the release added.
