NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 16 - Prominent sports journalist, columnist and a retired cooperative official Jatin Saikia passed away on Friday at a private nursing home in Guwahati. He was 73.

Born in Charing in Sivasagar district, Saikia came to North Lakhimpur in 1974 as an employee of the State cooperative society and settled here permanently. He worked as the editor of Na-Lakhimi, a weekly published from North Lakhimpur and wrote sports columns in number of dailies including Dainik Asom. He penned the first sports novel �Samaresh Runout� in Assamese. His last rites were performed here today. Saikia�s death was widely mourned in North Lakhimpur.
