Spl summary revision of rolls in Barpeta

BARPETA, Oct 12 - Following the schedule fixed by the Election Commission of India the special summary revision of electoral rolls commenced in Barpeta district today. This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta Varnali Deka in a press conference today.

As per schedule the draft electoral rolls for all the six Assembly constituencies under the Barpeta election district has been published today. Claims and objections regarding the draft rolls will be accepted upto November 11 next. Special campaigns with Booth Level Agents of political parties for receiving claims and objectives will be conducted on October 18 and November 1 both Sundays. Claims and objectives will be disposed by December 7 and the database with merging of photographs will be updated on December 24. The final rolls will be published on January 11, 2016 next.

Giving an analysis of voters the Deputy Commissioner informed that there are 9,31,534 electors with photographs excluding D-voters. Out of them 4,91,125 are male and 4,39,408 are female.

Sarbhog consists of 1,80,675 voters with 96,322 male and 84,353 female, Barpeta has 1,70,993 with 88,666 male and 82,327 female, Jania has 1,58,959 voters with 84,907 male and 74,052 female, Baghbar has a total of 1,36,854 with 71,942 male and 64,911 female, Sarukshetri has 1,67,213 voters with 88,501 male and 78,712 female and Chenga has 1,16,840 voters with 61,787 male 55,053 female.

Besides there are 24,992 voters in the district who have no photograph on the electoral roll out of which 21,071 are D-voters. A total of 3,921 genuine voters lacks photographs which has caused concern for the authority. The District Election Officer of the district Hemanta Bhuya requested the voters to submit their photographs during the summary revision process. Otherwise, the Election Commission will be compelled to exclude their names from the electoral rolls.

Representatives of Congress, BJP, AGP and CPM were also present in the press meet. The officials requested the representatives of all the political parties and people in general to extend full cooperation in the revision process in the interest of preparation of an error free electoral roll in the district.
