GUWAHATI, July 6 - The Special Brahmaputra Mail will henceforth run on electric traction up to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Junction.
The 05956 Delhi-Guwahati Special Brahmaputra Mail, which left Delhi yesterday at 11.40 pm, became the first Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)-operated Mail/Express train in post-lockdown period to run on electric traction up to New Jalpaiguri Junction. Earlier this train was running up to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction on electric traction. With commissioning of 326 RKM electrification works up to New Jalpaiguri Junction, NFR has also entered into electric traction era, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Subhanan Chanda said.
He added, There will be a saving in fuel cost of approximately Rs 20.4 crore per annum due to running of this train on electric traction between Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction and New Jalpaiguri Junction. Now both the routes connecting Delhi to the north-eastern states up to New Jalpaiguri, via Katihar and Bhagalpur, and both the routes connecting Mumbai to the north eastern states up to New Jalpaiguri, via Kharagpur-Howrah-Malda and Prayagraj-Patna-Bhagalpur-Malda, are fully electrified. So from now on, Delhi and Mumbai-bound trains can be run on electric traction from New Jalpaiguri.
Two other trains operated by NFR the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express and the New Jalpaiguri-Malda Town Passenger also ran on electric traction from New Jalpaiguri before the COVID-19-related lockdown.
