Special session of Sahitya Sabha concludes

NINGRULA HARMONY GROUND, Ledo, Feb 5 � The 7th Special Annual Session of Asam Sahitya Sabha officially came to a close on the night of February 4 with the curtains down on the panorama of songs, music and dances clustered together as Dehing Patkai Cultural Programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Pradyut Bordoloi, president of the reception committee. The cultural bonanza of the night showcased the folk-dance forms of the Sonowal-Kacharis, Tangsas, Morans, Semas and Bengalis of the locality including the Bihu dance by a troupe from Digboi together with the traditional dances of the Tripuraites, Oriyas etc.

The Gowalini dance presented by the group from Dhuburi was an interesting treat. Besides, the audience was regaled by the songs presented by a number of famed artistes from across the State and local talents.

On February 1, the cultural night dedicated to the memory of the musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika was inaugurated by Hemanta Bengia, a distinguished artiste from Arunachal Pradesh. Various tribes and communities such as Tai-Ahoms, Semas, Karbis, Singphos, Bodos, Nepalis, Tiwas, Tai-Khamiyangs presented their folk dances and kept the audience spell-bound. Another attraction of the night was Samar Hazarika�s bouquet of songs.

On February 2, Bimal Bhattacharjee Memorial Cultural Programme was inaugurated by Dulal Roy, the famed actor and drama director. The programme included Satriya dance, Oriya songs and dances, Rajasthani songs and dances, War Dance of the Khamtis, Kuchipudi dance of Andhra Pradesh, Bhojpuri folk dances, Manipuri Pong-Solong dance and Nepali folk dance. Another attraction of the night was the numbers of Pulak Banerjee.

The Ananda Mohan Bhagawati-Rameswar Pathak Memorial Cultural Evening on February 3 was inaugurated by Kumar Deepak Das, a noted artiste and Rajya Sabha MP and the audience were kept in thrall by the Deodhani Dance of Mangaldoi, Bhor-Taal Dance of Barpeta, Raas Dance of Manipur, Dhepa-Dhol of Mangaldoi, Mech-Kachari dance of Golaghat, Nao Khel songs of Barpeta, cock fight dance of Tai-Khamtis and the bouquet of songs by DY Medley, etc.

Though officially concluded, there was an unofficial but publicized programme of an intimate talk of the Sabha president, Rong Bong Terang with writers and artistes coming from various parts of the State and outside in the morning hours today. The book fair also wound up in the afternoon today.
