Special meeting discusses expulsion of GU students

JALUKBARI, June 2 - A special meeting of the Residence, Health and Discipline Board (RH & D Board), Gauhati University, was held today in the GU Executive Council�s chamber to discuss the developments in connection with expulsion of three students of the university namely, Milton Handique, Rejaul Karim and Writtick Saikia, which was notified on May 28.

It has been learnt that different organisations, including the Post Graduate Students� Union, Gauhati University Law College Students� Union, Satra Mukti Sangram Samittee, All India Students� Federation and National Students Federation of India, have submitted memorandums to the university authorities to review the decision to expel the students taken by the RH&D Board at its meeting held on May 22.

The committee was apprised by the GU Registrar that the university has already agreed to pay the medical bills for the treatment of Milton Handique � who had fallen sick and had to be hospitalised after the news about his expulsion was out � and has issued necessary instructions in this regard. The committee discussed all the dimensions involved and made certain recommendations for an acceptable solution of the issue and forwarded them to the Vice Chancellor for necessary action.
